Being a disciple of Christ means not only being a student of Jesus. You must also be a follower of Christ.
This means living as Jesus would want you to live and being in obediance to the will of God.
Day by day you should be relying on the Spirit of God to teach you, lead you and guide your actions. Day by day you should be struggling against the desires of the flesh, the world and your old habits and sins. Day by day you should be transforming into the person Jesus wants you to be, a saint, a child of God.
Living the Christian life can be very hard, espcially in our Postmodern, Consumeristic, Relativistic world with its anti-Christian bias. Everywhere you look, there will be ideas that go against the Gospel. Everywhere you look, there will be temptations to do things you should not and not do the things you should. Everwhere you look, there will be others acting and talking in ways you should not follow.
How can you succeed with the entire world against you?
By yourself, you cannot.
But by always relying on the Holy Spirit to guide and lead you, you can succeed.
At the beginning of each day you should be seeking the will of God through the study of scripture and prayer.
