Christian Spirituality

You may have heard a lot about spirituality recently, including the phrase "I am spiritual, not religious."

Spirituality is all the rage these days. This is very understandable after people have had to deal with the horrors of secularization and the damage that has done to people.

Unfortunately the Church has not emphasized spirituality at all, and this may have caused you to think that spirituality is not a part of being a follower of Jesus Christ.

This is unfortunate since Christianity is very much spiritual. God is spirit, and we are supposed to worship Him in "spirit and in truth." This means you should want to have a close relationship with Him in your inner most being.

What is Spirituality?

To understand what Christian spirituality is, first we have to understand what spirituality in general means.

In a nutshell, it means how you go about your religious life.

What Makes Christian Spirituality Different?

What makes Christianity unique?

Christ.

In the same way Christian spirituality is centered on your life in Christ. As John 3 describes this a "life from above."

A Christian is spiritual to the extent that they learn Christ's teachings and allow Christ to guide their actions. A truly Biblical spirituality must involve obedience.

What is the end result of Christian spirituality?

Peace... joy...

An abundant life.
