Here are a few of the most common questions I hear about Christian discipleship:
Well you are here, so you probably already know the answer to that deep down already.
Yes, discipleship is necessary for Christians, especially new Christians.
If you keep finding yourself having the same troubles, committing the same sins, or asking the same "isn't there something more?" rejoice because the solution to each of those involves discipleship.
And as one last reminder, let us remember the Great Commission described in Matthew 28: 18-20:
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
We are to make disciples of all nations, not just to evangelize, but to disciple. When someone comes to Christ we are to teach them to obey that which we have learned.
No, there is not. Just like you, I honestly wish there was though. Now that that is settled... let us get back to the hard work of becoming better followers of Christ. We'll walk together as we walk with Christ.
I have written up my best attempt at a definition for discipleship.
Great question. I wish I knew the exact answer.
This is the question that burned into me the desire to create this website, the lack of discipling going on in most churches.
My eventual answer was rather than feel sad for the current state of affairs I should try to do something about this problem.
